MG 2008 Concours – NAMGBR

MG 2008 Concours held by NAMGBR Concours was my first ever event. I did not know what would happen or how this would work. There wasn’t anything publicly available that you could study in advance to know how it worked or the details of what would judged. Cars are scored out of 1000 points and I had a target in mind of getting over 900 points. I did achieve this, scoring 927.

If you’re wondering what the Concours judging is all about please refer to this article on this site.

NAMGBR Event Summary

After each NAMGBR annual convention there would be a write up in the club’s magazine about the entire event and the Concours competition. For 2008 this is shown below and confirms the 927 I was able to achieve in the MG 2008 Concours event.

Judging Concepts

There are 3 categories of inspection by teams of 2 judges for each of these elements:

  • Technical Inspection, and exterior and boot quality and condition
  • Engine bay, wheels & undercarriage and interior quality and condition
  • Originality of the body/exterior, MG badges and decals, interior and the engine compartment and undercarriage

So for each event there are 6 judging sheets.

Judging Sheets

After the event competitors receive their judging sheets. These I was able to study to understand where there’s room for improvement. In this case, I could use them to fully understand what is looked at and scored. This was my initial understanding of the importance of things like the owners handbook, which I have but didn’t know to take. Additionally things like the steering wheel and gear shifter knob that have a big impact on the points. These are the sheets for the MG 2008 Concours.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
