MG 2009 Concours took place in Breckenridge Colorado for NAMGBR. Using the knowledge I gained from the first event I made changes to the car. The objective is to have the car as close as possible to how it left the factory in Abingdon. It also allows for how it “could” have left the factory. So period correct changes/options are allowed. For me that is the overdrive. The car didn’t have one from the factory but the period correct LH “blue label” overdrive would have been an option available.
The main improvements for MG 2009 Concours were the changing of the steering wheel and gear shift knob to originals. I also had the original owners handbook with me. These items were easy to address and had cost me a lot of lost points at the MG 2008 Concours event.
NAMGBR Event Summary
After each NAMGBR annual convention there would be a write up in the club’s magazine about the entire event and the Concours competition. For 2009 this is shown below and confirms the 948 points I was able to achieve in the MG 2009 Concours event. This was a great result and although not noted as 1st, 2nd ,3rd etc. I was given an “Award of Excellence” and essentially placed 3rd in the the competition.

Judging Concepts
There are 3 categories of inspection by teams of 2 judges for each of these elements:
- Technical Inspection, and exterior and boot quality and condition
- Engine bay, wheels & undercarriage and interior quality and condition
- Originality of the body/exterior, MG badges and decals, interior and the engine compartment and undercarriage
So for each event there are 6 judging sheets.
Judging Sheets
After the event competitors receive their judging sheets. These I was able to study to understand where there’s room for improvement. In this case, there were just small things like the trim rings on the wheels, my electric fan override switch on the dash and a non original radio/CD player. This was my initial understanding of the importance of things like the owners handbook, which I have but didn’t know to take. Additionally things like the steering wheel and gear shifter knob that have a big impact on the points. These are the sheets for the MG 2009 Concours.
I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
