MG 2011 Concours saw my first Top Point award. Within NAMGBR the top point concours car became known as The Don Hayter Top Point Award named after the chief designer of the MGB none other than Don Hayter. The event was in Reno NV and, as I always do, I drove the car to and from the event. My 1977 MGB is no trailer queen yet did very well in the various concours competitions of NAMGBR.
I can’t actually recall the minor improvements I made to the car. I brought along the special edition 8-track radio/cassette that was installed as part of a bundle in 1977. This and more cleaning and attention to hose clamps helped I am sure. In addition though the field of cars was weaker. The event being all the way to the west meant that many of the usual competitors didn’t make the event.
NAMGBR Event Summary
After each NAMGBR annual convention there would be a write up in the club’s magazine about the entire event and the Concours competition. For 2011 this is shown below and confirms the 979 points I was able to achieve in the MG 2011 Concours event. This was a great result and I was very proud to collect the “Top Point” award.

Judging Concepts
There are 3 categories of inspection by teams of 2 judges for each of these elements:
- Technical Inspection, and exterior and boot quality and condition
- Engine bay, wheels & undercarriage and interior quality and condition
- Originality of the body/exterior, MG badges and decals, interior and the engine compartment and undercarriage
So for each event there are 6 judging sheets.
Judging Sheets
After the event competitors receive their judging sheets. These are the sheets for the win of Top Point MG for the MG 2011 Concours.
I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
