MG 2013 Concours – NAMGBR

MG 2013 Concours in Corvallis OR saw my third in a row Top Point award hat trick. Within NAMGBR the top point concours car became known as The Don Hayter Top Point Award. Named after the chief designer of the MGB none other than Don Hayter. As I always do, I drove the car to and from the event – a round trip of 5,000 miles. My 1977 MGB is no trailer queen and I always drive it to the national events and conventions.

The field of competitors was much stronger in 2013, despite the west coast location. This was good as I wanted to have a vibrant competition having learned to enjoy the originality and concours efforts.

NAMGBR Event Summary

After each NAMGBR annual convention there would be a write up in the club’s magazine about the entire event and the Concours competition. For 2013 see below. The article doesn’t mention the points. However, I believe it was 928 points I was able to achieve in the MG 2013 Concours event. This was a great result and I was very proud to collect the “Top Point” award for a third year in a row. As the judges change each year the points awarded also change given the various views and criteria being applied by each set of judges.

Judging Concepts

There are 3 categories of inspection by teams of 2 judges for each of these elements:

  • Technical Inspection, and exterior and boot quality and condition
  • Engine bay, wheels & undercarriage and interior quality and condition
  • Originality of the body/exterior, MG badges and decals, interior and the engine compartment and undercarriage

So for each event there are 6 judging sheets.

Judging Sheets

After the event competitors receive their judging sheets. These are the sheets for the win of Top Point MG for the MG 2013 Concours.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
