This is a summary of my 1997 Amaranth MGF 1.8. As the earliest production MGF cars is now eligible for import to the USA. This is under the 25 years old exemption for emissions and DOT safety testing. I decided I wanted to experience the more modern MGs, sometimes known as Post Abingdon MGs. As such, I sold the MGB GT V8 Conversion and acquired the MGF from Canada.
Eeyore, as the car has been named, is a Japanese market export model. So, it is Right Hand Drive (RHD) and comes with various options that would have been extra for a UK home market car. For example Air Conditioning (AC) and Anti-locking Braking System (ABS). It’s also very low mileage. I got it with approximately 25,000 miles (which is 39,500 KM as Japan uses kilometers the the speedometer and odometer are in KM). The Amaranth colour (KMN paint code) is quite rare being an option in the first 3 years of production (1995-1997). It is a single colour pearlescent paint. However, it does turn different shades and particularly bright blue in certain lights and angles.
Journal of Importation, Maintenance and Projects
I have made a journal for various maintenance and projects related to the MGF. There is also some information on my experience with importing the car. I was able to leverage information shared by others. However I wanted to capture this. It can be available to others and to remember what actually happened for my own benefit.
The various MGF specific information is maintained on this separate dedicated page.
