MG 2016 Concours was to be the final time NAMGBR would host a concours class at the annual convention. I had sat out for 2014 as agreed after winning 3 in a row. For 2015 I didn’t attend the event in Canada. By the time of MG 2016 interest and participation was very low. Only 2 cars registered for the event actually showed. The result is lots of cars being persuaded to compete when they are already at the show. Never a good thing and makes for a weak competition.
This time the Top Point car was an MG Midget that at won previously at MG 2014. This is indeed a trailer queen car. It drives a few hundred yards from its trailer to the show field and back again. No doubt it’s in great condition but as it goes nowhere, this is not a surprise. Also, one of the judges apparently refused to score my car for overall originality. So loosing 25 points was a killer. No idea what that was about. With some points awarded I believe I would have won again. Ce la vie!
NAMGBR Event Summary
After each NAMGBR annual convention there would be a write up in the club’s magazine about the entire event and the Concours competition. For 2016 see below. The article doesn’t mention the points. However, I believe it was 969 points I was able to achieve in the MG 2016 Concours event. This was a great result although a disappointment not to get Top Point MG for a fourth time. It was clear however that everything was falling apart in Concours for NAMGBR. The awards got mixed up and inaccurately had Honorable Mention and Award of Excellence mixed up and reversed when given out. Something of a sad end.
Judging Concepts
There are 3 categories of inspection by teams of 2 judges for each of these elements:
- Technical Inspection, and exterior and boot quality and condition
- Engine bay, wheels & undercarriage and interior quality and condition
- Originality of the body/exterior, MG badges and decals, interior and the engine compartment and undercarriage
So for each event there are 6 judging sheets.
Judging Sheets
After the event competitors receive their judging sheets. These are the sheets for the for the MG 2016 Concours.
I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
