The “attempted” in the title Seat Install – Attempted is key! So not the most productive day I’ve ever had with the 72 🙁
Seat Fixing Bolts
I did, however, figure out the seat bolts by trying a course thread bolt and that seems to work. Of course on this attempt at getting something to fit from Sears I only bought one so found myself going back for 3 more. Doh! Oh well, at least I have something I can bolt up now.
Seat Sliders/Runners
I proceeded to install the sliders on the driver’s seat and that seems to have gone fine. I found I needed to bend and “open up” the slide channel a bit to get better movement of the slides. They don’t fall out but they move freely now through a good range of motion. I also added a little grease to them as well.
Attempted Seat Install
I then tried to install the drivers seat but that’s where my luck seems to have run out. In my 77 it wasn’t to bad but with some nearly 30 years in place the carpet was dented and it was fairly easy to line up/ Not so on new carpet even though I have mark and made holes for the bolts. I tried front first and had no luck getting bolts to bite and so then tried the back and played around trying to get things to line up. Only then do I discover that with the sound deadening kit extra padding the bolts for the rear are going to be too short. Tried again to see if I just left the rear bolts in place I got get the front ones to start but no luck. Did break the end off one of the wooden spacers so have decided to call it quits for the day and probably a couple of weeks while we’re on vacation. Have attached a picture of what it might look like. Oh yeah and it seems the recline lever is jammed so that’s not a good sign either.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
