Ongoing Work

Made some more progress on the 72 – nothing earth shattering but all positive forward movement, I guess.

Dashboard

Bolted up the bottom 3 dash fasteners and that seems pretty good. May not worry with any top bolts – see if we get any rattles.

Put on the heater and vent dash knobs and they turn OK so my fixes to these controls behind the dash seem to work. I did wire up the vent control wire and that is OK. However, I’m not sure the controls are correct for the 72. I did notice they both had a place for a bulb to illuminate the control, so I am wondering if they are off a later car. The temp control (position wise) has a 3 stop position mechanism which seems more appropriate for the vent control. The vent control has full motion but based on where/how the knob fits on the control it moves the wrong way! Oh well – not to worry too much – if they work but are not accurate to the knob position, I’m not going to freak out about it.

License Plate Holder

I also got the rear license plate holder put on – used some rubber washers and a grommet as a spacer for it and again that seems to work OK. Not perfect buy it’s on.

Interior

I have taken off the cockpit rail and removed the old vinyl. It does seem this will be easier to manage with the seats out. I must see the best way to glue the leather cover for the rail in place (it’s part of the interior kit I have).

Also looked at the door compression switches, and I am really not sure about how best to handle these – more thinking on those before any action.

Put the rubber covers on the clutch and brake pedals.

Also fitted both new interior door handles and I must be getting picky because I found myself even crafting a plastic cover to match what looked original on the passenger door. I guess that was done at the factory to keep any moisture out of the handle mechanism and or to prevent any rust. The old handles were OK but a bit rusty under the pull handle piece so I got new ones. Thought that best with the swanky new door panels I have.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
