VIN Plates, Dash & Chrome Gauge Surrounds

– 2006-08-23

So, some small activity updates. Monday night we got the VIN plate onto the inside door area and determined the dash VIN plate will have to be bolted as the pop rivet wasn’t going to fit with the windshield in place. Also figured out that we couldn’t rivet back to the dash the heater/vent control mechanism but believe we have figured a plan to make a screw and nut solution work and although it will mean making small holes in the front of the dash cover these should be covered up by the control knob when it’s fitted and not be visible.

Tonight, I have been changing the chrome surrounds on the 4 round dash gauges. These new ones were part of the bunch of bits I got with the car. The tach was a bit pitted, and they turned out to be easier to change than I thought. There are just fold down flaps on the edge of the surround that hold them in place. I did, however, manage to stab my thumb with the screwdriver I was using to press over these flaps – kinda small on the temp and fuel gauges – ouch!!

That’s about all for today and yesterday. Got the vent tubes from Tony and those are a perfect fit, so things are shaping up for the interior in the near future now most of the dash issues have been taken care of.

I’ve built this website and spent time on the knowledge base to bring together a lot of information I have collected from around the internet. The intent is making it easy to find rather than having to know about and have skills with search engine query terms to get what you were looking for. Please make use of the knowledge base.
